My child attended Arbor Creek Montessori School and was advanced to the Academy program (1st–6th grade) at 4 years old. While the concept of the program initially sounded wonderful, we developed serious concerns during our time there. As a weekly volunteer, I had the opportunity to observe the school closely, and I became more and more aware of significant issues with safety and professionalism. Unfortunately, the lack of resources and supervision undermined the potential of what could have been a wonderful program. One of the biggest issues was the lack of supervision. My child was punched multiple times by another student, and the teachers didn’t even notice until I brought it up. While they addressed it afterward, it was clear the multi-room setup and limited staff made it hard to keep a close eye on the kids. I also felt the administration was unprofessional at times. It seemed like parents were treated differently depending on whether they were on the administration’s “good side”. On top of that, the school isn’t accredited, so there’s no real accountability in place. Communication was also a challenge since many staff members were juggling multiple roles within the program. Socially, the low enrollment—fewer than 15 kids total, ranging in age from 5 to 10—meant there weren’t many peers for my child to connect with. Academically, we ran into problems too. Our child’s tutor flagged some mistakes in math, and discovered our child had been taught a new concept incorrectly by another student. It was frustrating to pay for private school and then have to spend extra time and money reteaching lessons at home. I later learned that many other families at Arbor Creek also relied on outside tutoring to fill the gaps. Ms. Stori clearly has great ideas. But as an underdeveloped program, Arbor Creek just doesn’t have the support or resources to execute them effectively. Some of the safety concerns we encountered were so serious that, out of respect for the privacy of the students involved, I won’t go into detail here. However, these issues left me deeply concerned about the overall level of supervision and care at the school. In the end, we decided to search for a program that’s accredited, academically solid, and better supervised—qualities that Arbor Creek, unfortunately, doesn’t offer right now.

When my wife began receiving text messages from the director (who is also a board member) speculating that another student had experienced some type of abuse, we realized this school might not be the right fit for our family. It was concerning that as mandatory reporters, they were willing to discuss another student in such an unprofessional manner. Additionally, a lack of supervision in the classroom allowed our child to be taken into a bathroom by a much older student without the teachers noticing. This occurred despite multiple meetings and assurances from the board members and teachers that they would keep a watchful eye on our son's interactions in the mixed age classroom. When we sought therapy for our son due to this incident, the therapist strongly advised us to find another school that prioritized safety. This, combined with the inappropriate communication from leadership, gave us no choice but to withdraw. Save your money, time, and energy and by choosing an accredited program that prioritizes children’s safety and has proper protocols in place.

My child has truly thrived in the years spent at Arborcreek, it such a hidden gem of a school. It’s really unique in the experiences it gives children to learn and grow. The kids even run their own businesses as a part of one unit each year! The new building looks awesome and I’ve never encountered more dedicated teachers and staff!

ACMA has been an amazing gift to my kids -- I wish every parent the chance to see their children thrive in character and life skill building educational environments like those that ArborCreek Montessori has provided our family year after year.
